Design Values 2012
This year I didn’t set myself new year resolutions or goals like I’ve done in previous years. Instead I’ve written a set of design values that I will review against each project I complete in 2012. I’m hoping this will allow me to make decisions on the direction I am taking in design rather than feeling I have to jump massive hurdles within a time period.
To me, design is…
- Timeless, not trendy
- Multi-channel and multi-media, not constrained
- Life improving, not life complicating
- Innovative but not out of reach
- Quality feeling, not primitive
- Holistically continual, not narcissistic
- Defined, not vague
- Exposes attention to detail but not over baked
- Human centric but not a faster horse
- Commercially valuable but not expensive
- Loyal to design integrity, not pimped
- Soulful but not form-over-function
- Targeted, not a Swiss army knife
- Prioritised and exudes layered personality, not flat & boring
- Simple but not empty
These may change as I go along so I’d love to know what you guys think. What would you change?
